The smell of hydrangea petals and rotting earth always hung heavy in the air of Chihiro Furuya’s room.

A stark reminder that no matter how much they laughed, no matter how normal their days seemed at the abandoned bowling alley or in his room, Rea was dead. Lately, the hydrangeas weren't working as well. Chihiro watched her closely, his heart tightening. The dosage of the poisonous leaves in her regular meals had to be increased just to keep her motor functions stable.

Chihiro walked up behind her, wanting desperately to wrap her in a warm embrace, to give her the heat his own body possessed, but knowing it would do nothing. "Anything."

She stood up and walked to the window, looking out toward the distant cliffs from which she had once fallen to her death.
