Arthur looked at the centerpiece of the mahogany table: an ancient, beige conference phone that resembled a flattened UFO from 1994.

The connection was instant. The voice from Tokyo was so crisp it felt like the Japanese executives were sitting across the table.

Arthur stood up, his face the color of a ripe tomato. "Sarah, get to Best Buy. Now. We are not losing a ten-million-dollar merger because of a piece of hardware that belongs in a museum."

"Wait! Say again?" Arthur yelled at the plastic UFO. "I can’t hear you!" The line went dead.

Ten minutes later, the "UFO" was in the trash. The new sleek device sat on the mahogany, glowing with a soft, confident blue light. Arthur hit the dial.

Arthur leaned back, a grin spreading across his face. He looked at the sleek black device. "Best money we ever spent," he whispered. "Actually," Sarah chimed in, "it was on sale."

"Is that... the best we have?" Arthur asked, poking a dusty button. "It’s a classic," his assistant, Sarah, said nervously.

"I need a conference phone. The best one. The kind where you can hear a pin drop in another hemisphere," she gasped.
