The series follows Yūta Togashi, a boy who once suffered from "chuunibyou" (eighth-grader syndrome), believing he possessed supernatural powers as the "Dark Flame Master." Embarrassed by his past, he starts high school where no one knows him. However, his plans for a normal life are ruined when he meets Rikka Takanashi, a girl who is currently in the depths of her own delusions and knows about his secret past.
