Aerodactyl snatches Ash in its claws and flies out of the cave. Charmeleon, angry at being ignored and taunted by the Aerodactyl, evolves into Charizard to pursue it.

Trapped deep underground, the group discovers living prehistoric Pokémon previously thought to be extinct: Omanyte , Omastar , Kabuto , and Kabutops . These Pokémon are hostile, but they suddenly flee when a much larger predator, Aerodactyl , emerges.

Jigglypuff arrives and sings its lullaby, putting everyone to sleep—including Aerodactyl, who falls back into the chasm. Charizard manages to stay awake just long enough to catch the falling Ash and land safely before also falling asleep.
